How to Reach Bhutan from India

Sitting in the lap of the Himalayas, Bhutan is a stunning blend of enchanting hamlets, charming monasteries, and unique wildlife. For all those who are excited to explore this destination, mentioned below are the complete details on how to reach Bhutan.

By Air:

From India, planning a Bhutan trip by airways is quite easy. From Bhutan’s only international airport – Paro International Airport, there are regular flights for Delhi, Gaya, Bagdogra, Dhaka, Singapore and Bangkok. Druk Air, Bhutanese flag-carrier, operates flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bagdogra.

By Road:

Traveling by road is perhaps a part of every road trip lover’s Bhutan tour plan. Indians who wish to travel to Bhutan by road will need an entry permit from the Immigration Office of the Royal Government of Bhutan in Phuentsholing, which is located on the Indo-Bhutan border opposite Jaigaon, West Bengal.

If travelling to Bhutan by road, your most preferred route will be through the Jaigaon – Phuentsholing border, which is accessible, and permits can be obtained easily. From Bagdogra Airport it takes around 4 hours to reach Phuentsholing and another 6 hours to reach Thimphu from Phuentsholing. You can hire private taxis and buses from Bagdogra, New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri.
